Mason Jar Bathroom Decor

I’ve seen these painted and distressed mason jar bathroom storage and accessories sets on Etsy for the past year or so and have to admit I’ve been intrigued … My first concern has been durability. Especially if you’re using craft paint. It’s water soluble. And even with a top clear coat, I worried that they finish would eventually wash off. Or peel off. Which has made me reluctant to try my hand at creating this mason jar bathroom storage set … and sharing it with you! But all that changed when I was introduced to Amy Howard’s One Step paint (which, by the way, I found at my neighborhood Ace Hardware store). Now, I’ll admit the finish isn’t permanent permanent. But it’s much more durable than craft paint. Especially after you give it a clear sealant coat. Mason Jar Bathroom Storage & Accessories Set DIY Materials* Mason Jars (Quart, 2 Pints, Elite Half-Pint, 4 oz. Quilted Jelly Jar) Amy Howard One Step Paint in Bauhaus Buff Clear Coat Sealant Mason Jar Soap Lid Converter Kit Mason Jar Flower Frog Paint Brush Instructions Give your jars two coats of Amy Howard One Step Paint in your choice of color; let dry completely between coats. After the second coat dries overnight, distress the raised lettering on the mason jar. I use 80 grit sandpaper. Finish it with two coats of a matte finish sealant. This is my go to product that I found at Michael’s. For the toothbrush holder, I used a mason jar lid insert that is meant for a flower arrangement. For the soap dispenser, I purchased the lid converter kit from an Etsy shop (I purchased it from a shop called Martin & Company which you can find by clicking here). And that’s it.  The smallest jar is a 4 oz. quilted jelly jar. The cotton balls are in one of Ball’s Elite Collection jars (1/2 pint). And now I have a pretty and stylish storage and organization solution for my bathroom! And I have a book filled with mason jar crafts for kids. Click here for more … *affiliate links included. It’s just amazing when you think about the things that you can make from a single item that you might have thrown away during the years as useless. The mason jar is one of those things that you probably have dozens of stashed away in your home without using them. But just because you don’t need them anymore for their original purpose doesn’t mean that you can’t make use of them. On the contrary, mason jars are a very popular platform for many DIY projects that do not require any specific skills and materials to craft by yourself. You can use them to craft all kinds of items, for example party decorations, storage, lights, home decor etc. There are just way too many things that you can craft from mason jars to list here so we’ll let you see them by yourself in the images below.

Nikki, you’ll just need to get a size that will fit around your specific mason jars. So just measure the diameter across the top of your jar, and make sure you get clamps that are big enough to go around the top. Then you can just tighten the clamp so the jar will stay in there snug.

Traci they’re surprisingly easy to clean! You just unscrew the hose clamp a little bit and the jar slides out. Clean it, then tighten it up. The jar holding the toothpaste always needs a good cleaning, so I was relieved to find them easy to take down.

I pack and ship jars daily for my Etsy shop. Over the years, I’ve learned how to send them so they don’t arrive broken! I use USPS Priority Mail (2-3 day) flat rate boxes because they jars are heavy and it can get expensive if you try to ship otherwise. I wrap each jar in four layers of bubble wrap, tucking int he extra inside each jar as I roll and then taping it all into place on the bottom and tops of the jars. Then I add peanuts to the box to fill any blank space.

Step 3: Fill the jar with liquid soap, screw the lid back on, and insert the pump. You may need to trim the bottom of the pump to fit your jar.

I think this mason jar organizer would work great just about anywhere. Maybe in your kitchen for knives, forks, and spoons? Perhaps in a craft room to hold pencils, scissors, and glue? The possibilities really are endless.

Hi. Where’s the best (i.e. cheapest) place to get Mason jars? I’m really interested in getting started with jar crafting, but I need some jars first.

Amy, You simply loosen the hose clamp to make the ring bigger, and the jar will pop out. Then you put it back in and tighten the ring to make it smaller. It’s very easy!

Question: do the bottoms of the jars rest against the wood, or do they stick out a bit? It’s hard to tell from the pictures. If the clamp goes around the skinny part of the jar, it seems like the bottoms would stick out, since they’re fatter.

Hey Aimee, You adjust the size of the ring by unscrewing it a bit using a flathead screwdriver. I’d suggest bringing the jar with you to the store, and making sure it fits around the mouth of it. Then you can tighten and untighten the hose clamp around the mouth to make sure you can get a snug fit.

Kathleen, So happy you like the project and want to create your own! It’s going to look amazing holding craft supplies. Perfect! As for the bottoms sticking out…they really don’t. The jar is just about flush with the wood. So don’t worry about it sticking out too much…should be fine! Good luck with the project! xo, Casey

4. The key to a great spray paint job is to first put on a light tack coat so go ahead and shake your can well, make sure nozzle is clean, and cover your jar with light strokes from about 8” away. You want to make sure it is even and all over (but don’t stress this doesn’t have to be perfect).

These are the hose clamps. I had never heard of them until this project, so do not be afraid! Just ask someone at your local home improvement store to point you in the right direction, and buy a size that will fit around your mason jars. You’ll find these in the plumbing aisle.

Stephanie, this project will cost you less than $20. The hose clamps are only a few dollars, then the cost of the mason jars and wood. You can get wood at the hardware store for a few dollars, and sometimes they even have scraps for free. It really will depend on how big of a piece you want for your particular project. Good luck!
